Africa is the cradle of human genetic diversity — home to more genetic variation than all other continents combined. Yet Africans are profoundly underrepresented in genomic research, databases, and precision medicine. This is not just an equity issue; it is a scientific one. Genomic discoveries made without African diversity are incomplete and may not generalize to African-descent populations. Initiatives like H3Africa, the African Genome Variation Project, and growing sequencing capacity across the continent are beginning to right this imbalance.
